Get close to the action in the great seats we still have available at the 2pm matinee of Aterballetto this Saturday. Superbly talented, the ensemble of 20 dynamic and beautiful dancers perform choreographer Mauro Bigonzetti’s work with utter commitment and skill. Aterballetto's first visit to our shores brings a riveting triple-bill full of a zest for life and Italian flair.

New York-based musician, conceptual artist and writer Paul Miller is here in New Zealand to present his audio-visual performance project Rebirth of a Nation, a remix of D W Griffith's 1915 film The Birth of a Nation. Miller uses the film as a springboard to create new social commentary, revealing how the original film’s symbols and myths endure today. “To me this film is a parable for when power and corruption go unchecked,” says Miller. “The whole idea is to break the film apart… Griffith was one of the masters of editing. The scale of tomorrow night’s production is breathtaking. I managed to get a sneak preview of the set up in the Michael Fowler Centre during rehearsals today and it gave me goosebumps (see photo). There entire stage and half of the choir stalls behind are taken up with instruments! The percussion section alone fills the half of the choir stalls.
