Cézanne to PicassoA rare opportunity to experience a remarkable selection of exquisite works by some of the masters of modern art including Cézanne, Picasso, and Braque. On loan from the Julian and Josie Robertson Collection, New York, this exhibition will be on display for four weeks only.
These fourteen works represent many of the major phases of modern painting between 1875 and 1950, in effect documenting the movement of art from Impressionism to abstraction. Some exceptional individual works feature in the exhibition, such as those by Braque, Nolde, Redon, and Fantin-Latour.
In addition, Jonathan Mane-Wheoki, Te Papa's Director Art and Collection Services, will present a talk during the Art Thursday Lecture Series (2 March 6 - 7pm, ICON, Te Papa), which will discuss personal and professional reflections on the Josie and Julian Robertson Collection. Two floortalks will also be presented in the exhibition (Saturday 18 and Saturday 25 March, 11.15am - 12 noon).
